Bedlington Joint Cadet Centre refurbishment completed

The NE RFCA Estates team has completed another building upgrade.  Bedlington Joint Cadet Centre has been completely rebuilt and refurbished, improving the cadet experience for both Northumbria Army Cadets and 2522 (Bedlington) Squadron RAF Air Cadets, who share the site, and the adult volunteers who train them.

Liam Todd, our Building Maintenance Officer South, led the project and he, as with everyone else involved, was determined to provide all cadets across our region with modern, state of the art places to train.   From start to finish the team’s site inspections, experience and attention to detail, ensured that the building works were compliant with all statutory regulations.    The resulting building was declared a ‘winner’ by both cadet units when the keys were handed over on completion.

Mark Quince, Head of Estates, and the Estates team is responsible for more than 400 buildings and 880 assets, ranging from cadet huts to multi-million pound properties. These span the length and breadth of the region and provide Reserves and Cadets with the venues where they work and train to unlock their true potential.

This project was funded by the Army Reserves Estate Optimisation Programme, and works to the building included:

  • Rebuilding and recladding
  • New UPVC windows and doors
  • Internal & external decorations
  • New flooring
  • New LED lighting
  • New office facilities/lecture rooms
  • New kitchen units
  • New sanitary ware
